I came across this house in the streets near St. Augustine Church and north of St. Louis Avenue. It is not particularly lavish, nor large, but I was drawn to it nonetheless. I have seen houses like this all over the city, and they’re usually in stable neighborhoods, but their mate in St. Louis Place was not so lucky. Perhaps what sticks out to me is that it doesn’t look to have been abandoned too long ago. The rollaway carts are still there, and the front porch looks like new concrete. But what is perhaps the most depressing aspect is the huge swath of garbage that fills the lot to its north. What a shame.
