  1. Back in the early '50s, my parents belonged to a square dancing group that used to meet there. Most of the participants were from Kirkwood and I never knew why they had the dances at this school. This was long before the Parkway School District was formed; I dunno what "district" Barretts was part of – I presume it fed kids into the Kirkwood High School system. While I grew up just West of Ballas and East of Greenbriar CC, this school was REALLY out in the boonies – I mean, no street lights and it was DARK at night! As to the square dancing – we kids were bored out of our gourds…

There was a building that was torn down to the south of Barretts, where Seven Oaks subdivision is now. I went to Barretts from 1975 to 1981 and can remember this old building (presumably an abandoned school) being in the middle of a field, scary looking. I would love to know more about this mysterious structure that is long gone. Any ideas of where I can find out any information?

Wow, DeeDee, that is so interesting! When I moved to St. Louis, Seven Oaks had already been largely completed.

My first grade class was on the left side of this building. This is far from mysterious as its still connected to the same exact school.. Also RIP Tom

Jessica, I think we’re talking about an earlier structure that I’ve seen in aerial photography. I believe there might have been a horse stable on the grounds of what became the Seven Oaks subdivision, judging from what I could see in the photographs.

I apologize for my mistake above + retract all my statement as I just realized Tom is the man I had to call police on for his incessant online harassment rooted in religion lol omg small world
