Browne Building, Manchester Avenue

Ellendale and Maplewood 069

Wow, where to I even begin to describe the Browne Building, right on the border of the City and Maplewood.  Playful, colorful and exuberant might be the best way to describe the mix of different terracotta elements in what I could best describe as Spanish Revival.

Those are the same 3 businesses that were there when I used to walk by it on a weekly basis in 2001. Impressive longevity for the 21st century. Wonder how long they’d been there previous?

That’s good to hear; that stretch of Manchester is so pedestrian-unfriendly I am glad to hear businesses can still make it.

I always admire that building when I am in that area. It draws your eye in with so much going on in the facade and your pictures clearly show that. Any idea as to the year it was built and the original use?
