I’ve always been fascinated by this Romanesque Revival apartment building at the southeast corner of Lami and Twelfth Street in Soulard. It used to be, in its last iteration, a very low rent building, with monthly rates around $200.
I also was fascinated by the courtyard or lightwell visible in the Sanborn maps.
It certainly looks different now, and is no longer painted red. The condos go for over $250,000 and its no longer low rent.
But I wish I knew more about the story behind this unique building.
