One of the main drags through Gravois Park, Winnebago is perhaps the black sheep of the east-west “Indian Tribe Streets” in South St. Louis. But it is just the type of street in St. Louis that I love; no major landmarks sit along it, it has an odd name and goes through a pretty rough neighborhood. But it reflects the overall beauty of St. Louis, with multiple eras and styles represented. Its silent contribution to the overall beauty of the city, like a tooth in a mouth, is undeniable. From severe decay, to loving attention, Winnebago Street has it all.
How is the Iowa Buffet not a major landmark?
When I say major landmark, I mean something like a church spire or big. The Iowa Buffet is indeed awesome, though.
Froebel School?!?
This was confined to Gravois Park.
I wonder the purpose of the interesting corner building in photo #5; it does not have a “commercial look.” Could it have served some governmental function?
It looks like there is a ghost sign on that odd patch near its door (or is it my aged vision?).
