Update: I went back to this block in May of 2022.
I wrote an article recently about how Midtown used to be a thriving residential area before the theaters and parking lots showed up. This house is fascinating; it is old. It was probably one of the first houses out this way after the Civil War.
Thanks Chris. Great place. Could you talk a bit about how you know the house is that old?
Geo St. Louis lists the (usually) accurate date of construction. You must always balance what the site says with the style of architecture of the building, any additions (which mess up the date listed), and whether it’s logical that anything had yet been built in that area of the city at the date.
