Modernist Serendipity on Washington Blvd

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this great row of low rise Modernist office buildings along Washington Blvd, just west of the Contemporary Art Museum. I like how the sun came out for five minutes, just long enough to create a glare in the pictures. Even better, though, is that the buildings are still healthily occupied, and one is even being carefully restored.

  1. The second and third buildings are by Isadore Shank. The building under renovation will house artist studios on the second floor and a frame shop on the first floor. Grand Center owns the building and is renovating it for existing tenants in the 634 N Grand building, which is going to be re-developed possibly in the coming year.

Wow, they’re not going to demolish them!?
