Old Shaare Zedek Synagogue

Update: I went back by the old synagogue in the spring of 2021.

Wow, what an amazing structure! The old Shaare Zedek Synagogue is now occupied by the equally historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, but the beauty of the house of worship still shows through.

I find Jewish architecture intriguing. Since it is not beholden to Christian historical types, there was clearly a lot of freedom allowed in the buildings. This building is a great mix of Beaux-Arts and other eclectic details.

The Hebrew might have been removed, but the Stars of David still stand proudly. There’s even a book about the Synagogue, which has since merged with another to become Kol Rinah.
