Beautiful six family and larger apartment buildings continue around the corner on Pershing and other side streets. The rehabbing has held up well over the decades, but for the life of me I don’t understand why they so clumsily blocked up the windows below.
Any idea why a lot of buildings have names on them above the door? These apartments say “Lucille” above the door. I lived in a building on Russell in Shaw that said “Helena” above the door.
I would imagine the names added character or panache to the buildings, and aided in the locating of the buildings by visitors.
Looking for a catchy name is easier than an arbitrary number on a street.
