Sixteenth Anniversary of Saint Louis Patina

Map Showing Density of Population East of Grand, 1900, Missouri History Museum, Lib-OCLC-42946854

On the occasion of the sixteenth anniversary of St. Louis Patina, I wanted to announce that I now own the trademark for the name “St. Louis Patina.” I wanted to thank my parents for helping me obtain this recognition of this identity that I’ve built up over the last decade and a half. You’ll notice there’s a little ® next to the name at the top of the website now.

Here’s a cool map showing population density east of Grand Boulevard. in 1900.

Congratulations, Chris! Thanks for all your work over the years. You’re performing a vital task for those of us interested in preserving what is best in the city’s built environment, and mapping an urban-design future responsible to the city’s quality of life and beauty.

    Eye-opener:

Bring up the 1900 map in one tab and the current Google-Map of St. Louis in another. Check out the number of residences that were destroyed (and people displaced) to make room for the I-64 / Market St. interchange, the I-44 roadway, the I-44 / I-55 interchange, and the park along Market St.

Another year already! Doesn’t seem like your fifteenth anniversary was a year ago. Congratulations on another year.
