St. Louis Avenue Between Prairie and Vandeventer Avenues, South Side, JeffVanderLou

I don’t think people realize just what a beautiful street St. Louis Avenue is for much of its path through North St. Louis.

Yes, this block has some abandonment and demolition, but most of the houses are still occupied. Much of the housing stock has more in common with the Greater Ville to the west.

I always find these houses interesting because they alternate between being single family houses and being two-family flats, and there is usually no rhyme or reason to it.

But yes, there are some problem properties, but just look at the porch below on the left, and how the pillars gracefully flare out at the base.

And yes, the parapet walls need constant maintenance.

I would not say that parapet walls need constant maintenance. But, they do need some maintenance every twenty to thirty years, like any other feature of a well-built building, and which the majority of St. Louis property owners rarely provide.

I never saw a post from you refuting my statement about parapet walls. Did you end up not posting one?

          Oops, totally forgot!
