St. John Nepomuk sits just to the east of Tucker Boulevard, originally Twelfth Street, and possesses most of its original buildings, including a school building and parish hall, I believe.
I was particularly interested in the building directly across the street, with the soaring Second Empire tower on the corner of Lafayette and Eleventh.
I strongly suspect the facade facing Lafayette was built second…
While the front facing Eleventh Street was built first.
In the old pic, it looks like there might have been a mosaic, possibly of St. John Nepomuk on the tower, no longer there. It would have been like the mosaic on the tower at St. Francis de Sales, which has survived the elements and even a bullet in the early 80’s.
