Kimmswick, Revisited

Founded in 1859 by German Theodore Kimm, we thought that Kimmswick was worth a second look recently since we were in the area after having looked at it back in August of 2020.

I had forgotten how many log cabins there were in the town.

And judging from the National Register nomination, which does not list any of them, I suspect that all of the log cabins were moved from other locations to their current addresses in the town.

This house has not changed since the last time I was in town almost six years ago.

Interestingly, the Kimm Family are buried in their own private family plot on the western edge of the downtown area which is the original town plat. Theodore was from Braunschweig.

Kimm had originally lived in St. Louis and came south to found the town. Other names prominent in the town were Rauschenbach, Zogg and Johannas.

There was considerable industrial activity in the town at one point.

It was even the second largest town in Jefferson County.

The Historic American Buildings Survey captured one house in particular that may have been a brewery or beer garden.
