Constructed by the Benoist Family in 1853 according to designs by the great George I. Barnett, it was one of a whole garland of Italianate villas that once graced the outskirts of St. Louis, Most of them are now gone.
The long veranda faces to the south more or less, logically taking advantage of the sunlight during the summer and also the warmth during the winter.
