We’re getting closer to two decades here at St. Louis Patina, rounding out our seventeenth year, and what better way to commemorate it than looking at St. Augustine, which is slowly coming to an end after years of neglect.
So we’re left with another landmark destroyed.
These images invoke memories of both gladness and horror. Many of my childhood chums went to Augustinian and I cannot but see this and have the memories flood back. That’s the good.
How sad to see the seeming slow destruction of the (at least for me) most beautiful city and edifices (residential, commercial or ecclesiastical) I’ve ever seen and I’ve lived in other places and visited others, too.

The building still looks incredible. What a tragedy. I’ve often looked at your photographs and read your articles about this place since you first started taking them. Thank you for taking them, so there is some record of this awesome place. Happy anniversary I guess.

Congratulations on another year of St. Louis Patina. Just think, St. Louis Patina is already old enough to drive. Next year, it will be able to vote. Soon, it will be smoking and (legally) drinking. They grow up so fast.
Something about the style of the steeple reminds me of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, which is also gone.

Thank you so much for your blog. I am creating a memory book about my grandmother and your posts have been incredibly insightful and helpful. My grandma received all her sacraments at St. Augustine and went to school there, so these pictures are very touching for me. I wish I could visit in person, but since I live in CA these pictures are enough and help me get a real sense of the area. Thank you again!!!
