Details, Lemp Mausoleum

The Lemp Mausoleum is less than half full, and probably will be forever. See the inside at this earlier post here.

Hirstein Cemetery, Morton Township, Illinois, August 2019

I went by Hirstein Cemetery, where many of my oldest ancestors in America are buried, in the first weekend of August. It was a hot day, but the clouds in the sky made for beautiful light. This obelisk had not been broken before, and it has not been repaired well. But overall, the monuments for…

Calvary Cemetery, Early June 2019

I felt as if I was in Scotland again when I visited Calvary Cemetery recently. After all of the rain and warm temperatures, there seems to be a haze over the city and rolling hills, and everything is so green. I really like this cross, a combination of what appears to be gray granite with…

Bellefontaine Cemetery, Late December 2018

I like the different perspective that the winter brings to Bellefontaine Cemetery with the leaves off the trees, as the lay of the land is more obvious with its undulations and dips and bobs. The light is harsh and stark, as well.

South Down 20th Street from the Grand Water Tower

Update: The Grand Water was repainted in the summer of 2020. I came to the sad realization that the entire east side of 20th Street in Hyde Park (some consider this to be College Hill, but I don’t) is abandoned south of the Grand Water Tower. In February, I photographed the other side of the…
