Sometimes ironically called the “cash register church,” Trinity Lutheran Church, Chesterfield at the intersection of Clayton Road and Missouri Highway 141 is actually a historically rich and interesting congregation. It’s actually within the boundaries of the suburb of Town and Country but identifies with Chesterfield, further to the west. This Trinity is in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and is not affiliated with the Trinity in Soulard, which is in the Missouri Synod.

It was difficult to find any information about the new church, which from historic aerials I could determine replaced an earlier structure, presumably in the mid to late 1960s when the area was still quite rural.

Presumably, since the rights holders of the photographs I obtained are Smith & Entzeroth, they are the architects.

And certainly it looks like some of their other work.

The interior is dramatic, though a bit simpler than what we’ve seen recently with the soaring curved roof at St. Clare of Assisi.

The cemetery in back is still active and points to the congregation’s age which is apparently well over one hundred years.
