
There are many famous private streets in St. Louis, but there are even more than most people realize. Take Thornby Place, for example. It’s home to one of the most unique houses in St. Louis, below.

Thanks to Found St. Louis, we have located a photograph of the house, sometime in the decades after its construction.

Also, what I find fascinating is this wood frame house below, which would be incredibly rare in the city. Almost certainly this was originally a Shingle Style house, but for economy’s sake, its facade has been simplified.

But there are also the good, sturdy “4-square” houses on nearby Laurel Street, as well.

This amazing house, which again would probably have possessed shingles where there is now siding, has a curiously long back. I wonder if it was a boarding house for a time.
