These two houses along Lindell Boulevard just west of Kingshighway, which I looked at way back in March of 2008, used to have two neighbors just down the street, back when this was actually known and platted originally as Park Road, as I mentioned yesterday.
Designed by the famed architecture firm of Barnett, Haynes and Barnett in 1899, this stunning mansion has been demolished, creating a giant backyard for the Mallinckrodt Mansion at 16 Westmoreland Place.
A quiet driveway leads through the trees from the front of the property.
I remember several years ago there was a bill that came before the board of aldermen that would have allowed for the raising of ostriches on property over a certain number of acres. I think this was one of the few acreages in the city that would have qualified. No word on whether the current owners were interested. Ostrich meat is really good, by the way.

Great series of articles. What about “spolia” and re-use of interior decorations – for example, the amazing woodwork inside the mansion from the previous post. What happens to the materials after a demolition? The thought that you might tell me it’s all simply discarded makes me nervous.
A lot of it gets destroyed. Some ends up in shops on Cherokee Street. Other stuff ends up in various houses around St. Louis, or at least is rumored to be.
That’s so sad when beautiful homes like that are torn down. The craftsmanship alone should be worth saving. They don’t build them like they used to. By the way my husband worked in the hardwood flooring industry and worked in some of St.Louis’s finest historic homes and seen a lot in his career.
