
I decided to take a look at Alaska Avenue, a street in far south Dutchtown that is southwest of Virginia Avenue (former Stringtown Road), meaning that it does not make it north of Meramec Street.

So it’s a state street, but even though it’s north-south, it’s much shorter than other state streets in the old St. Louis Commons.

The architecture is what you would expect: those houses with ornament now only cast in white-glazed brick or metal.

And often those wonderful white string courses seen above. And the corner store below is just an adaption of the residential form.

Sometimes those string courses become eye brows over the windows.

Have always loved our glazed brick accents in STL. That incomplete triangle in the last picture is making my OCD twitch a little, but I get that even basic masonry repairs are expensive.
