Around Wabash Avenue

I found Wabash Avenue recently, which is one of the last major north-south arteries in St. Louis down by the River des Peres. There are a series of streets that come off the avenue to the east and west. Interstate 44, above and obscured by the trees, cuts through the area.

The area is quiet and desirable, as there is new construction.

I would imagine that many of the houses were for workers in the nearby clay and brick industry, which was active out this way.

Most of the houses seem to be from the 1920s or around there.

But I did spot this Second Empire duplex, which points to there being people in the area in the Nineteenth Century.
