Heading north from the former Fountain Park Congregational Church, we head up Aubert Avenue, which is typical of most St. Louis additions or subdivisions in which a street in the development was named after the area.

The houses are definitely less elaborate on the less prominent side street.

But there is an interesting surprise that I learned about from bumping into a resident of this unique enclave.

Presaging “garden apartments,” is a small grouping of townhouses built a century ago around a small courtyard perpendicular to Aubert Avenue. They are condominiums today.

Around back, there is an alley on either side with garages that run from the street back to the alley in between Aubert and Kingshighway.
