Beckmann Mausoleum

I had never really looked at this mausoleum before, and I found some interesting details, such as this angel in bas-relief on the front door. I imagine the angel is an allusion to the one discovered in Christ’s tomb after the Resurrection.

What I also find interesting about the mausoleum is the rustication of the stone, giving it the impression that it is much older than it really is.

Please join me for my lecture about historic St. Louis churches tomorrow, April 24, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the Lee Auditorium at the Missouri History Museum as part of Johnny Rabbit’s Presentation on Holy St. Louis. The lecture is free and open to the public, but I recommend arriving early to get a seat.
