Ben Hur Construction, Former Heine Boiler Company

This massive complex along Shreve Avenue intrigued me, so I dug into its history. Originally, it was the Heine Boiler Company, founded by Clem Meyer. The purchase of the land, southwest of West Florissant Avenue was originally the Winkelman property.

These were not just little boilers in private homes! They were gigantic. The name of the company was derived from the type of boiler built.

The company was eventually bought out in 1927, it seems, and was closed, like so many St. Louis institutions.

Ben Hur Construction took over the site; the company has been around for around a century. I do not know how much these buildings are used today.

Ben Hur has now merged with Stupp Brothers, which I looked at back in May of this year.
