The Bixby Mausoleum is unique for several reasons; first of all, it uses much more rusticated stone than its neighbors. Secondly, its massive, gravity-defying curved front pediment appears to be the only one like it in the cemetery. It is a massive, and extremely strong piece of stone.
Looking at the amount of copper and bronze on many of these mausoleums – esp. the door of this Bixby building – I wonder how the metals have survived scrappers, given “the times” and the cemetery’s location. Are there armed guards that patrol the place 24/7/365?
Bellefontaine has excellent security.
