Central Industrial Drive, McRee Town

Update: There is another one of these industrial drives up north.

Central Industrial Drive might be the most forgotten street in St. Louis, stretching from Vandeventer to Chouteau in a valley that stretches up to the Mill Creek Valley.  It was packed with railroad tracks for over a century, but sometime presumably in the mid Twentieth Century, the City cleared out the valley and opened it up to industrial development.

I cycle through Central Industrial Drive every so often as a way to bypass the Chouteau bridge over the train track between Vandeventer and Spring. It is actually a pretty busy street, which gets lots of truck traffic. I notice the vestiges of rail spurs and rail lines cracking through the pavement in a few spots.
