After leaving Madison, I wandered over into Granite City, where I soon found myself on East 23rd Street, and lo and behold, there was TMS Services. I went to their website, and after reading their “About Us” section I still have absolutely no idea what they do. I guess it looks like they probably scrap steel that gets melted down over at US Steel next door?

There was a funky, sulfuric smell in the air.

And yes, there are houses directly across the street from these various steel concerns. In this instance, the date of their construction seems to be around the mid Twentieth Century.

Nearby is a power plant or something for US Steel. I’ve been told that steel mills require ginormous amounts of electricity, and this one is no different. It glows at night, and can be seen from miles away.
