National City Stockyard District Preview

Update: Armour, Hunter Meatpacking and the mule barns have been demolished as of July 2016. The status of the roundhouse is undetermined as of July 2016.

Here is a preview of much new material that I will be focusing on for the next couple of weeks. Above is the remnants of the Hunter Meatpacking Plant.

Above is an old B&O Railroad roundhouse buried in the underbrush along I-55.

Above are a fragment of the original National Stockyards, once one of the largest stockyards in the world.

Above are the spectacular ruins of the Armour Meatpacking Plant, inside the powerhouse.

And finally, the view of the city of St. Louis from the upper floor of the slaughterhouse.

Wow, the construction work in that BO Railroad House looks remarkably similar to our new warehouse down in south city.

  2. Please keep up the posts. It’s bitter sweet to see so much decay in St. Louis but the area certainly does have character.
