East Twelfth Street, Alton

The wealthy seemed to live on the flat plateau due north of downtown, while the working class lived in the curving ravines to the east. East Twelfth Street has some spectacular houses, along with some more middle class houses.

This house below, Italianate to a certain degree, also has an over the top front portico, giving a sense of the Neoclassical, as well.

I had to sort of peek over the top of the bushes to see this mansion below.

And then, there’s this massive church, known today as The Bridge, but my suspicions that this was a Presbyterian church originally was confirmed by on-line research (how can I just tell?).

Regardless, it has a really cool mosaic and sculpture of Christ out front.
