I learned from some neighbors that the old “Hostess Factory” was at the northwest corner of Hebert Steet and Glasgow Avenue.

This substantially deteriorated building does appear to be the former Continental Baking Company, which at one time produced Wonder Bread.

The back portion of the building was collapsing along the alley, so I went and took a look inside the building.

There was not much to see except some piles of illegally dumped tires.

Over along Hebert Street, there was substantial spalling of brick from the exterior wall.

There was more illegal dumping. I don’t know what the future holds for this former bakery that once had such an important role in St. Louis history.

My 2nd or 3rd grade class from Twillman Elementary took a field trip here. We each got a loaf of bread and a ruler.
