Friedens Cemetery, Late June 2026

In response to some concerns I heard about the condition of Friedens Cemetery, which I hadn’t visited since September of 2024, we took a look a week or so ago.

While the grass looks to have been mowed relatively recently, there were a large number of tree limbs broken and lying on the ground.

And this dead tree below was just waiting to fall over in a storm.

Most shockingly, the cemetery office has been gutted by fire. What is going on around here?

My grandparents on my mother’s side are buried there. The disrepair there is so sad. I had reason to contact the “caretaker” about a year and a half ago. She lived in Iowa and I left multiple messages before she finally called back. Wish the owners had someone local to oversee the operation of the cemetery.

Iowa is a long ways away to be a caretaker for a cemetery in Missouri!

I would worry the charts of burials was lost in the fire . Good management probably has a record copy in a remote location. But who is in charge , who is on the board ?? I think my wife’s family is buried there .

I didn’t think of the loss of cemetery records. Ugh.

Records are on the Friedens website. Also, the person I spoke with in Iowa last year had burial records.
