Cut off by I-44 and demolished in large sections, the so-called Gate District still has some surprises, such as these row houses. There used to be thousands of “true” row houses in St. Louis, but they’re mostly gone. Too dense, or something like that.
Want to see a great example of a home that the gate district has to offer? Look on pennsylvania or longfellow. These homes formerly the “rear”of the compton heights neighborhood, on the same block as the now extinct immaculate conception catholic church and school building, are immaculate gems.
