Half Flounders as Back Extensions

A couple of flounder constructions that I cut from my recent St. Louis Magazine article are located in Old North St. Louis.

These are not free standing structures like in other parts of the city, but are rather wings, sometimes built later, that extended out the back and provided for more porch space. Much of Nineteenth Century domestic work occurred outside, and these porches provided easy access to the outside.
