I spotted this interesting church off of Jennings Station Road just off of Interstate 70, so I thought I would take a look at the surrounding streets.
At some point I crossed from Jennings into the Walnut Park West neighborhood, but it was hard to tell because the streets were equally beaten up and huge, towering bushes and trees blocked my view of abandoned houses and streetscapes.
This part of the region might as well be five hundred miles away from all of the subsidized luxury condos being built in the central corridor. It is as equally part of the metropolitan area as the Central West End, but it is completely forgotten.
Update: On Friday, November 13, 2020, the City of Jennings blocked off Garesche Avenue and other thoroughfares between the North County municipality and the City of St. Louis. It had already blocked off many other streets decades before.
But then, I emerged onto Garesche Avenue, where a beautiful boulevard of a couple blocks features a row of well-maintained homes. People do care about their community up here, if anyone is willing to notice.
The city/Jennings line is about a block west of Goodfellow. Acme Ave. is a good line of demarcation.
