Kingswa Building, Renovated

I originally looked at the Kingswa Building at the northwest corner of Chippewa Street and Kingshighway all the way back in June of 2009. Then, as now, it is the last urban, walkable building at the intersection, at what is a largely autocentric part of the city.

Thankfully, there has been extensive rehabilitation and redevelopment of what is left, and there is increased investment in this area.

The Golden Hoosier is one restaurant that has opened up and has proven to be popular in the neighborhood.

Perhaps, one day the other corners can return to better use than they are now.

The northeast corner was of course the location of the Southtown Famous Barr, which was demolished several decades ago.

I would certainly enjoy seeing the three other corners of this intersection return to their former glory and build up better, walkable streetscapes that would best serve this neighborhood. Maybe one day we can hope STL can see what they is missing and work to make it easier to build better and release us from the stranglehold the auto-centric design has left us in.
