Kutis Funeral Home started out in a much smaller building, but was still anchored at the corner of Gravois and Nebraska, as it is today. You can see St. Wenceslaus on Oregon Avenue in the background.
The current building apparently dates to around 1922, according to City records. It’s an intriguing building architecturally, sort of looking like a Mediterranean villa.
I took one bad picture of it before back in 2011.
In the 60’s our grade school baseball team used old wool uniforms probably left over from the 50’s that they handed out every year. We had Kutis Funeral Home plastered across our backs from when they were a sponsor ages ago. It was fitting as our team was always dead last, we rarely won a game.
I remember back in the late 80’s and early 90’s when they’d show ads on TV with the teams they sponsored.
