Update: In late 2024, the Lake School was threatened with demolition. Creve Coeur later demolished the school; no word on whether the city will rename the park something different than Lake School Park.
The Lake School was built in 1897, to serve students south of Olive Street Road, and took its name from Creve Coeur Lake. It was replaced in 1925 by a brick schoolhouse.

That’s pretty pathetic of them beyond the more mildly irresponsible forms of bulldozing West County’s settler rural archaeological building sites. Like those Cretaceous Period Dinosaurs (pre Bering Strait Land Bridge) were long extinct before those Mastodons (a post Columbian Americas) met their biological demise 🙁
I’m very disappointed to hear they’re choosing to demolish it. Perhaps there will be a last minute reprieve.
