I know an acquaintance who lives in the small South County city of Lakeshire, so I finally made it out there after becoming intrigued by its appearance through Google Street View.

Apparently the town has restrictions that only ranch houses can be built, but that is only partially true as there is a belt of four-family flats on the south end of the municipality that probably provides a substantial portion of its population.

But it has some wonderful ranch houses, indeed, and some competitive prices to live in the city. I like the place.

Here are some of those apartment buildings.

This is a split level, which is not a ranch? Or is it called a split level ranch?

But nonetheless, it is a unique community where there is a wide variety of ranch houses from what look to be mainly the 1950s.

My Aunt and Uncle Arthur and Dorthy Karr and Cousin Karen lived inn LAkeshire. In factbthen fourth picture looks very much like theri home. Ranch with Basement. Two bedroom with sun purch on left end garage om opposite. and sat up above road. My cousin eventually sold ythe home and still lives in south county. Wonderful older neighborhood.
We have lived in Lakeshire since 1998. There is a great stock of homes from the 30’s here. Mine was built in 1936 and was one of the first 10 built here. I’d be happy to share information about Lakeshire with you. I have original plot plans, incorporation papers even aerial maps from the 30’s.
Oh, that would be awesome! Send them to naffziger (at) gmail (dot) com. Thanks!
