These structures never fail to amaze me – the stones, their weight, the craftsmanship. I continue to wonder how much an installation like the Lemps’ – and others – cost, both way back when and in today’s dollars.
What is the purpose of the medallions at the top and bottom of the building? For a while I thought they were vents of some kind (you know-cool air in the bottom and warm air out the top), until I zoomed in and noticed they were decorative.
Although – I’ve seen others that really did look like vents.
