Magnolia Manor, up Washington Avenue in the intact portion of Cairo, is one of the most splendid examples of Italianate architecture I have ever seen. It is a shame that more of the town is not preserved as well as this house.

I’d been wanting to visit for years; many of my friends have already been there years ago and they told me I should go. I was fascinated by the town because in many ways it had a very early history similar to St. Louis, but something went terribly wrong in the last one hundred years.
