I love this sign on North Broadway, pointing the way up to Salisbury Street and the approaches to the McKinley Bridge (whose viaduct you can see in the background. It is very, very old, which is perhaps obvious due to the little circular reflectors on the letters, as well as the letters that have apparently just fallen off.
Let alone the while sign on the lower right that seems to have lost nearly the whole word “McKinley”!
Ugh. The “white sign”. Sorry for the typo.
It is of some interest to me that cities and never only St Louis do not keep such signs in good repair. The ambulance chasing lawyers would use it’s disrepair to gain leverage in a suit for damages of some sort. There were sidewalks in my ‘hood which, if a person slipped and fell, the City would be liable. My multiple reports to the Street Bureau brought no response.
Thanks, Chris. Once again an interesting and inspiring post.
