Moline, Illinois

Moline is contiguous with Rock Island, so we entered the former from the west. Moline is famous for being the home of several industries, including an elevator manufacturer and John Deere, which everyone has heard of.

First up is the former headquarters of Montgomery Elevator Company, which is now abandoned. The tower functioned as the test site of elevators and featured a conference room at the top.

It is abandoned and scheduled for demolition.

There is also a nice library building that we saw.

This is the post office, which is a great example of the Beaux-Arts.

We didn’t make it by the headquarters of John Deere, but they are in fact designed by Eero Saarinen, who of course was the architect of the Gateway Arch.

We didn’t make it over to Bettendorf, so this concludes our tour of the Quad Cities. We’ll also hit Clinton, the next town up the river at some point.
