North Newstead Avenue, The Greater Ville

Newstead is a long street; it starts all the way down in the Grove, heads north through the Central West End and then finds itself in the Greater Ville. There have been some streetscape improvements, but without private investment, the buildings lining the new sidewalks will sit empty. I’ve looked at it before a little bit to the south.

The architecture is beautiful, with an interesting mix of eclectic, revival styles that take little bits from a whole bevy of different styles.

Then there is this building, which must have a story behind it.

And we have your standard four-family apartment buildings, languishing due to developers’ general lack of interest in their often difficulty in reuse.
