Old Courthouse, Early June, 2019

I never feel like I can get a good picture of the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis. There always seems to be something blocking my ability to back up far enough, or it’s a cloudy day, or whatever.

Surrounded by buildings for most of its existence, first by two- to three-story-houses and stores that were dwarfed by it, and then slowly by historic hotels and office buildings that towered over it, the Old Courthouse is now set off in isolation, with even the two banks on either side flanking it with low-slung glass pavilions.

It still is an amazing example of the Greek Revival, and its revolutionary dome by William Rumbold.
