Pestalozzi Between South Compton and Louisiana Avenues

Heading west on Pestalozzi Street from South Compton Avenue in Tower Grove East, we see how rapidly the city grew in the early Twentieth Century as transport connections improved.

In fact, the houses on these streets were largely built in one or two decades.

There is a wide mix of one, two and four family buildings.

The Shaved Duck, at the corner of Virginia Avenue, is just opposite this building below; I photographed it way back in April of 2013.

Heading west of Virginia Avenue, the houses are built in large tracts; while the front facades are different, you can tell the houses were built in groups of three or four when you see that the fenestration is largely the same, as well as the placement of porches.

There is this random Second Empire house thrown in; this area was platted much earlier than most of the houses that were built on the lots, but there were occasional early houses built.

Then we make it to Louisiana Avenue.
