    It is designed as a roundhouse, to rotate the trains and turn them around, it was designed by the same architect who did the Climatron at the Botanical gardens and he also designed a building at SIU-,Edwardsville campus, his name escapes me though

    I went through it in the ’60’s when I was a cub scout , it was pretty cool . We always called it the golf ball . lol

    Dome needs cleaned up and painted. Has a lot of rust.

    My grandfather, John Sullivan, of East Alton, was the contractor. It was the last building he worked on before retiring, and he was very proud of this accomplishment.

      Wow, that’s interesting! Any good stories he might remember? I don’t think most people even know this building exists.
