I’ve done a series of posts on the “Borderlands,” that strip of land left between St. Louis and the northern suburbs separated by Skinker/Kienlen (two of them you can read here and here). The most relevant one to this post, the sad streets of southern Wellston, show that little has changed for the better in the stark, empty landscape.
I do not think many of these buildings are occupied, if they were even occupied back in 2015 when I first photographed them, and there are mainly just scrapyards.
I honestly have more hope for the City of St. Louis, with all of its debilitating challenges, than I do for large portions of North County, particularly inner ring suburbs southeast of interstates 170 and 270 such as Wellston. It is incredibly sad.
