Riverlore, Cairo, Illinois

Update: A renovation of the house began in 2019, but it seems to have stopped at some point after that; as of June of 2024 it sits abandoned.

Representing the burst in commercial success after the conclusion of the Civil War, the stunning 1865 Second Empire mansion was built for Captain William Parker Halliday, and named Riverlore. Located on the northwestern stretch of Washington Avenue known as Millionaire’s Row, it is well-preserved and in good shape.

The owners of Riverlore have an Instagram and Facebook page dedicated to the renovations with interior shots and an active website (as of Dec. 6, 2024).
It is not abandonned. Definitely slow going work. Lovely to see.

    My favorite!
