Update: The site is now a vacant lot.
Sadly, some demolition has come to Tower Grove East, which is notable in that over 99% of its original housing stock is still standing.
These buildings are different than most buildings in Tower Grove East in that they are true rowhouses, with gangways under the second floor of each house.
It seems that someone thought that the density more common inside Jefferson would continue out further, but the eventual development of the neighborhood would be less dense, with gaps in between the houses. It’s a shame these are coming down, but they suffered for a long time and had begun to collapse on neighbors’ houses. The last link to a planned denser Tower Grove East is disappearing.
Where are/were these? Haven’t seen or heard of them before.
2900-3000 S. Virginia, just north of Arsenal; nothing left to see.
