A decade ago, I traveled down Sinks Road, and viewed a subdivision that had been canceled due to the discovery of sinkholes that stopped construction of additional houses.

While they have been modified slightly by the planting and mowing of grass, they give us a fascinating look into what much of South St. Louis would have originally looked like, back before the karst topography was filled in, as I wrote in St. Louis Magazine.
